The species occurs at one location on the slopes and summit of Mt Misery, a lateritic hill east of Cataby in Western Australia. The population comprises eight ‘clumps’ confined to a single remnant of native vegetation on private land left uncleared by the current owners for soil and nature conservation.

Threats The main threats to Dandaragan mallee are inappropriate fire regimes; lack of recruitment and restricted distribution.
Frequent fire is also likely to degrade the supporting ecological community; altering species composition as well as fostering weed invasion and erosion.
